Every
culture sets aside, or builds, a special space for the
rituals that bind the community together.
And most of the rituals include percussion
instruments and are accompanied by fermented beverages.
The
Ritual Room is protected by a baffle wall to prevent
direct visual access to the space.
The walls are built of redwood timbers,
wine-stained and encrusted with tartrate crystals from
their origins as a primary fermentation wine vat.
Deer antlers mark the corners and entrance.
Inside
the Ritual Room a drum awaits the touch of the viewer /
participant. The
bowl of the tympani-style drum is stainless steel
(enameled) and the drum is supported by a base made of
wine press crossbars.
The
interaction of viewer and
drum and the resulting resonance are a vital part
of the experience. |
